July 16, 2007 : FLAC 4 life + personal update

I've recently been converting my personal CDs using FLAC instead of MP3. I think that I may be gravitating towards a complete shift from MP3 to FLAC. The other option is 320kbps MP3s, but why would I do that when 500 gigabyte is $120 at Fry's? Cheap storage. FLAC dropped my 30 meg WAV file down to 15 megs. So that's 50% reduction in size without any actual loss in quality.

The latest WinAMP comes with the FLAC codec installed, so I can still use my favorite llama. The quality is better than MP3s. I have plenty of space. I'm going for it. Who's with me?! Ramen once suggested that we support FLAC on the spoomusic.com web site, at least in terms of including an optional FLAC download of the disc. Maybe we'll do that.

In other news, I have been hired as an Audio Designer at Volition. Addie and I will be moving to Champaign, IL, towards the middle of August. If any of you are near there, please drop me an e-mail and we can meet up. I can't wait to be finished with school so that I can get to work. I'm excited to get back into full time game audio work.

My services are still available in terms of contract work, so feel free to continue to e-mail me for remixes, back beats, and game tunes. I should take this moment to thank all of the game developers and musicians that have supported me through various jobs while I have been in school. Thank you!

Ariel
